Position Summary:
ZeroDivide™ invests in community enterprises that leverage technology to benefit low income and other underserved communities. (For more information, please visit our website at www.zerodivide.org.) We are seeking to hire a Director of Community Investment with a proven track record of managing a successful team in a social enterprise, business unit, and/or philanthropic program. Paid experience in a senior position in one or more of the fields of: social enterprise, venture philanthropy, and/or technology is preferred. A successful candidate is entrepreneurial, willing to take risks, and enthusiastic about the possibilities technology holds for underserved communities. This position reports directly to the Chief Community Investment Officer (CCIO).
Essential Functions:
1) Manage a highly energetic and motivated team to develop and implement investments in technology-based enterprises in underserved communities, including:
a) Develop and oversee departmental systems related to investments;
b) Work with the community investment team to assure efficient and effective investment funding cycles and overall investment management;
c) Develop and maintain analysis and assessments and evaluation tools and systems;
d) Oversee and coordinate with Community Investment Officers (CIO) & the 360º support system (technical assistance provided to investments by staff, mentors and consultants on business management, legal, technology, and other elements of a successful enterprise);
e) Provide guidance to CIO’s in working through challenging situations; and,
f) Assure integration of technology into investment management systems.
2) Maintain a portfolio of investments.
3) Participate in strategic planning and assist in guiding staff in the development of community investment strategy, program design, metrics, and strategic direction of the Initiatives.
4) Manage the investment model documentation and evaluation system.
5) Oversee production of portfolio materials for Board and committee meetings.
6) Develop investment applications, brochures and content for Web site.
7) Assist CCIO in developing educational and networking opportunities for the department.
8) Build & maintain networks from a variety of sectors including philanthropy, government, technology industry, community and the non-profit sector.
9) Raise visibility of ZeroDivide programs through public speaking opportunities, participating in and initiating conference presentations.
10) Document and disseminate learnings and make contributions to the field of community technology, philanthropy, social enterprise and/or policy.
Required Skills/Experience
• Demonstrated ability, initiative and capacity to manage program design and implementation. Willingness to experiment with new modes of philanthropic grantmaking, evaluation, and outcomes measurement.
• Proven ability to analyze problems and identify appropriate alternatives, as well as attend to the details of program implementation and management.
• Ability to work well in a collegial, team-oriented environment, and to serve as a skilled leader, manager, and mentor.
• Self-starter who has the demonstrated capacity to create work plans, set department objectives, identify deliverables and collaborate with team members to consistently achieve on-time results.
• Demonstrated capacity to identify and create technology based solutions that utilize existing and/or emerging technologies such as digital and social media, mobile applications, and wireless infrastructure to enhance individual or community adoption.
• Proficient in a range of basic and advanced computer skills (i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and internet based social media tools (e.g. pod-casting, social networks, blogging). Experience with database management/CRM applications preferred.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Minimum 10-12 years’ work experience, minimum 5-7 years’ work experience as a program officer or program manager in a foundation, social venture, or private sector start-up (or related expertise).
• Familiarity with scope and breadth of issues facing California’s underserved communities.
• Knowledge of California’s information technology industry, philanthropic sector, and developing social enterprises preferred.
• Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis. .
